Sleep Out Saturday
Saturday, November 2nd through November 3rd - 5:30pm through 7am
Lisle Community Park Bandshell
Sleep Out is coming up quick! We hope you're having good luck fundraising for this incredible overnight event! If you need any help or ideas please let us know. For this event, we will be sleeping outside overnight in boxes or tents to raise awareness for homelessness in DuPage County. As part of the event, participants will need to raise funds for Bridge Communities, an organization that works with local homeless families. Everyone will meet at the bandshell at 5:30pm in front of Sea Lion Aquatic Park (1825 Short St, Lisle). We will travel together to a rally at College of DuPage where we will learn about what Bridge Communities does, hear stories from people that Bridge Communities has helped, and enjoy soup and bread prepared by the COD Culinary Program. We will then come back to the Bandshell where we'll set up for the night and talk about ways to help those in need in our community. There will be a bonfire before we turn in for the night! Breakfast will be at 6am, and pick-up will be at 7am.
We will have indoor bathrooms available in the Fitness Center and we do have extra boxes if you need one! Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns at all.
If you'd like to learn more about Bridge Communities, feel free to visit their website here: https://www.bridgecommunities.org/. For a little more about the event, please watch this video from last year: https://youtu.be/xMUANJH1V9U?si=LkyTnEYRmyS5l5Ey

Feed My Starving Children
Thursday, November 14th - 6:30-9:15pm
Lisle Senior Center - will travel together to the warehouse
Feed My Starving Children believes that hope starts with food, and they rely on volunteers like us to help them provide lifesaving nutrition to children worldwide. We will be meeting at the Lisle Senior Center and traveling together to the Aurora warehouse. There we'll be packing meals alongside other volunteers. Meal are created by scooping Vitamins, Veggies, Soy, and Rice into labeled pouches. After that, we'll seal the bags and pack them into boxes to be shipped out. We'll also get a chance to hear a story of someone that's been helped by the meals.
You must be a registered LTWC member to join us for this project.
Further information about the organization can be found at https://fmsc.org/.
If you have any questions about anything, please email Dawn at dyackley@lisleparkdistrict.org.
Recaps
Scarecrow Scramble
Saturday, October 5th 2pm-8pm
Thank you so much to those that helped us at the race! The funds raised will help the Lisle community by offering scholarships for families who otherwise could not afford to participate in recreation programs, contributing to the beautification of parks and protection of natural resources, supporting and enhancing community programs and promoting recreational opportunities. They also directly support our group so thank you so much!
September Large Group Meeting
Monday, September 16th
At our September Large Group, we got a brief introduction to all six pillars and explored leadership through a desert survival activity. We also took a look at the concept of values and listed the personal qualities most important to us. If you'd like to view the Participant Agenda from this meeting, please Click Here!
Walk to End Alzheimer's
Sunday, September 15th
For the first time, LTWC went to North Central College to volunteer for the impactful Walk to End Alzheimer's. There were over 1,300 participants! We helped hand out flowers for the Promise Garden, lined the route with signs to direct walkers, and helped to set up and take down the booths at the event. By volunteering at this event, we supported the efforts of everyone involved; from the participants and their families to the members of the Alzheimer's Association. All funds raised by participants through Walk to End Alzheimer's further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Kick-Off Large Group Meeting!
We were so excited to have our first meeting of the 2024-2025 school year! We will played some fun games while we get to know one another and learned about the group. We talked about upcoming service projects, the President's Volunteer Service Award, leadership opportunities, and how to build life skills that will not only support your own goals but our community as well. If you missed this meeting, no worries! We have meetings monthly and multiple service opportunities each month. You are welcome to join us anytime!
Registration is now open online for both semesters of the 2024-25 year at https://www.lisleparkdistrict.org/ or in person at the park district! You can also register at Large Groups or service projects if you have a parent with you.
We will be registering by semesters this year. Registration is required to help us keep information accurate, fund supplies like T-shirts and awards, and otherwise support our group's mission.
Other ongoing projects
Sole Hope
Hello Lisle Teens! We have a special continuing service event that makes use of old jeans and other denim. If you'd like to donate, please bring any of these items to any LTWC events or drop them off at the park district. Thank you!

Everyday Volunteering
Feel free to volunteer using the ideas below, or come up with your own!
Letter Writing
There are many options for organizations/causes to write letters to. If you'd like to write a letter or make a card, please drop it off at the park district and we'll be sure to send it out for you. Whether it's one letter or a dozen, any would be greatly appreciated! Write inspirational quotes, tell them about your day, send them a story, etc. It's all up to you!
Military
Write letters or make cards for our troops to thank them for their service. These brave people give up so much to keep us safe. Let's show them we appreciate their sacrifice. These letters and cards will be given to Chaplain Heroes to distribute to troops around the world.
Senior Citizens
Many senior citizens feel isolated due to health concerns. This is an incredibly lonely time for many, so let's cheer them up and let them know we are thinking of them. These cards and letters will be sent to a local extended care facility.
Sole Hope
Write letters or make cards for people in Uganda receiving our Sole Hope donations! Many people in Uganda go without shoes and that leads to some painful health conditions. The recipients of our shoe patterns also love hearing from the people that send them! These letters and cards with be sent with our patterns donation to Uganda.
Litter Pickup
Though the weather has gotten colder, it's still nice to get outside and get some fresh air. If you go on a walk and want to help the environment, bring a trash bag and a pair of gloves with you. Pick up any trash you find and throw it away in a garbage can when you're back. Any little bit helps! Be sure to recycle if you can and stay safe!
Fall/Winter Cleaning
It's always a good time to clean up around the house. Spring cleaning doesn't have to stay in spring! Pick a small part of your house and sort through it. If you find articles of clothing, housewares, school supplies, or other items that you don't need but someone else could use, put it to the side. Ask your parents to donate the items to people in need. Helpful tip: Give the items to a organization like your local Food Bank, Homeless Shelter, or Animal Shelter. Many places are looking for specific items that will be very gracious for your donation!
